A Spring Southern Wedding

A Spring Southern Wedding

On a perfect spring morning in Georgia, I found myself in the most beautiful old church, preparing for the wedding of my sweet Tara. After months of dreaming and planning, it was time for her to become Mrs. Smith and our whole crew couldn't have been more excited!

Tara had dreamed of getting married in an old church that still looked old and quaint on the inside. I quickly fell in love with this idea and made it my personal mission to help her find the perfect one!  After visiting every old church in our local area and scouring the internet for old historic churches in Georgia, we stumbled upon a blog that featured an old church that still portrayed the simplicity and character Tara was looking for, Mt. Zion Church in Hancock County Georgia.

The wedding featured in this blog was the first wedding in Mt. Zion since the 50’s and Tara's would be the second. The church was built in 1814 and was currently owned by the Hancock County Historical Society. It was well preserved but had remained basically untouched, with original paint, pews, windows, and hard wood floors. (Did I mention there was no electricity or running water!) What a peaceful and unique place to make such a big life commitment.

Tara chose a neutral color pallet of creams and blushes with lots of natural greenery. This was the perfect choice to complement her blush dress and the natural aging paint of the interior walls of the church.

The natural morning light and the beauty of the old walls made the perfect backdrop for pictures.

There was a small lodge just down the road from the church where we all stayed that had a lovely pavilion and plenty of room for a beautiful white tent. It was a perfect place to host the events of the weekend.

We used old porch columns to add a touch of the weathered wood look to the tent as a nod to the church where the ceremony took place. Once the tables were set with vintage china, we were ready to celebrate!

Tara asked my Dad if he was willing to make the cake and of course we were happy to help with every detail of this special day!

It was the happiest day for our little work family to be able to help Tara have the wedding she dreamed of.  It was the most beautiful setting to celebrate two of the sweetest people! It was definitely one of the most special weddings I have been a part of and definitely a day of Southern wedding perfection!
